My Favorites

favorite 1

This list is designed to help those with various allergies (corn, gluten, soy, dairy, etc.) and multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS). I cannot guarantee these items will work with your sensitivities, but I always find it helpful to compare notes with fellow-allergy-sensitive-friends! I am very sensitive myself and over the years have done a lot of trial and error. I have finally found things that work and I want to share with you now!

Supplements

Premier Research HCL: This bottle is my favorite brand made of non GMO beets and has no added fillers and is in a hypoallergenic tree pulp capsule. It is essential for my digestion.

Lugols 5% Iodine: Iodine is necessary for thyroid and brain function. Typically people with mercury toxicity are deficient in this mineral. I keep a bottle around even for topical use on cuts or infections.

Capsule Connection empty vegetarian capsules: Over the years I have made my own supplements and needed capsules which I tolerate. These capsules are corn free. These vegetable capsules consist of only two ingredients: HPMC and purified water. HPMC — Hydroxypropylmethylcellulose — is derived from vegetable cellulose. 100% natural, these capsules contain no preservatives, gelatin, wheat, animal by-products or starch, and they are made from pure cellulose of either pine or poplar.

Olivus Olive leaf extract: I can’t go a day without taking my olive leaf extract.  Click here to visit Olivus Inc. I like to use their OliveLeafMAX (25% Oleuropein) Bulk Extract because its the strongest stuff they carry (25% is a high percentage!). The regular olive leaf capsules are filled with olive leaf powder and the capsules themselves are derived from rice. The olive leaf max capsules have a mixture of olive leaf powder and the 25% oleuropein extract and the capsules themselves are derived from vegetable cellulose. I choose to fill up the empty capsules about with the pure extract powder and take between 2-10 a day depending on how Im feeling. It the strongest anti fungal and anti bacterial and immune system booster I can find!

Bedding

Organic pillowcases: A pillow is the closest thing touching your face for the long period of time while you sleep. Sleep is suppose to be rejuvenating so the best option in my opinion is organic. This glo organic pillowcase is well made and good option for extra sensitive people.

Rawganique organic sheets: My favorite set of sheets is the Rawganique Organic cotton percale (USA) and the Organic cotton flannel (USA). They are super  soft and the best quality and purity for someone with either MCS or sensitivities. I have a set of each and swap them depending on the season. I honestly would recommend these sheets to anyone wanting organic bedding. They have no dyes and are the natural color of cotton grown.

Detox

Dry skin brush: This long handle brush is my favorite and I don’t go a day without using it. It is made with an unfinished wooden handle and tampico bristles. Its detachable with a cotton handle. I doubled checked and there are no glues, just wood and natural tampico plant fibers. It even smells natural!

Moso Natural Air Purifying Bag: I bought these bags to out-gas our new car and it worked in 2 days. The first day I had a headache in the car but after I put these in the door pockets for 2 days the “new-car” smell was gone and no headache. So the charcoal did its job!

Fragrance Free, Chemical Free and Non-Toxic, the natural moso bamboo charcoal will and effectively absorb odors, allergens and harmful pollutants. The powerful bamboo charcoal is sealed inside a beautifully stitched linen bag. It is safe to place on any surface or material.

Glass Enema Bucket: This bucket is the new best for coffee enemas. Finally a glass enema bucket was made by Pure Life Enema. Coffee enemas themselves are a great liver detox-er! I found using a stainless steel bucket reacted with the coffee solution sometimes. I like the idea of using glass because I am very sensitive to nickel (which is in stainless steel) and the colon is highly absorbable.

Gerson Coffee enema kit: This coffee enema set is the best kit for doing coffee enemas at home daily. I have a plastic bucket and like it because its not breakable and I have a metal sensitivity (so stainless steel is out). It also comes with the coffee you need for the coffee enema as well. There is also an option to buy the bucket separately and in different sizes.

Omega J8004 Nutrition Center Juicer: This juicer is the best kitchen gadget I have. I use it daily to make 3-4 organic juices a day to help boost my liver and immune system. I did a lot of research into what juicer to buy and am so happy I chose this one because it is low-speed, cold pressed (does not heat up with friction), is simple to wash (a must if you juice daily), and is a dual- stage (grind and then push through a screen to provide juice).

Bath

Screen Shot 2015-09-11 at 11.48.49 PM

Organic Towels: Anything I wrap my body in after a nice clean bath is organic. My favorite thick bath towel I have used over years and still are strong and absorbent are from glo organic.

Rawganique Honeycomb waffle Towel: These thin towels have an amazing texture that I really enjoy. I use them for face and hand towels and after my bath because they dry so quickly. I have always been drawn to the natural organic cotton color with no dyes because its the closest thing I can get to nature.

Teeth

Screen Shot 2015-09-11 at 11.52.17 PM

Organic Brushing Rinse: I use this rinse daily after my oil pulling. It smells amazing and makes my mouth feel very fresh. The ingredients are purified Water, Organic Aloe Vera, Food-grade hydrogen peroxide, Organic Essential Oils: peppermint, rosemary, lemon, clove, eucalyptus, cinnamon

VITA-MYR zinc-plus herbal toothpaste: I used to make my own toothpaste until I found this herbal toothpaste. I like the taste of the herbs and the fact that it kills bacteria and supports healthy gums and teeth without anything un-natural. There is no Fluoride or Aspartame (SLS) & No SLS, No Sugar, No Saccharin, Low-Abrasive Formula. It is formulated using Zinc, Folic Acid, Clove and Myrrh.

POH floss: This floss is basic and simple just how I like it. It is constructed of nylon and gathered into strand. No wax or additives or corn.

POH tooth brush: Its nothing fancy but I like this toothbrush. Its simple and gets the job done and not packaged with a strong smell!

mouth wash tea tree

Desert Essence Tea tree Mouth wash: This mouthwash is my favorite (and I have tried over 10 kinds to find a natural one that works). I swish 3x a day or more because its quick at killing the bad bacteria on the tongue and gums.

Organizing and Kitchen

Screen Shot 2015-09-11 at 11.37.57 PM

Acid-free USA plastic: Plastics are not created equal. I did some research and it turns out my favorite brands are IRIS USA and Interdesign. They have lots of fun colors and most are made in the USA and even bpa free which is nice to store produce in. I use these small ones to organize my fridge and bathroom.

BPA free plastic ball jar lids: I use glass ball jars for pretty much everything and I always swap out the metal lids for these sturdy plastic ones. They are BPA free too so I feel good storing food in them!

Screen Shot 2016-07-07 at 6.46.11 PMVision glass cookware: I am allergic to stainless steel so I have a whole set of these glasses pots. I use them every day! They are super durable and food doesn’t stick with the use of good fats. The best part is that they have no nickel like stainless steel and there is no metallic taste in food. I love these pots.

Personal Care

Olive oil soap: This is my staple soap for washing hands, dishes, and even hair. Its very mild and I buy the fragrance free kind, so its basically olive oil saponified into soap. It smells amazing and I have never had a reaction to it! The ingredients are Sodium Olivate (saponified virgin olive oil), Water (Acqua), Glycerin (from virgin olive oil).

Organic hair bands: Kooshoo organic hair bands are so cute and are 75% Organic Cotton, 25% Natural Rubber. I don’t break out when I handle this hair band and even wear it around my wrist when I take down my hair. I have been sensitive to rubber hair bands my whole life until I found these. The color of the dye does not wear off on your skin, they have no chemical smell and they don’t break, snag or stretch out. I also have the brown and black colors too.

Gluten-Free Savonnerie Shampoo: I use this shampoo everyday.  I had been looking for an allergy free shampoo for years and when I tried this I have not changed since. I use their conditioner daily too (the only add-in is  jojoba oil) which leaves my hair nice and silky. It is very pure and allergy friendly but also keeps my hair looking healthy.

Gluten-Free, Casein-Free, Fragrance-Free, Soy-Free, Corn-Free, Peanut-Free, Dye-Free,   Citrus-Free, Aloe Vera-Free, Paraben-Free and Phthalate-Free

Ingredients: Distilled water, disodium laureth sulfosuccinate and disodium cocoamphodiacetate (synthesized ingredient starting with highly refined palm or coconut oil), panthenol, PEG 150 pentaerythrityl tetrastearate, propylene glycol (not corn sourced – manmade), diazolidinyl urea, iodopropynyl butylcarbamate, DMDM hydantoin.  (100’% man-made ingredients; providing a salon quality alternative for people with Celiac Disease or multiple plant allergies who are unable to use commercial products containing herbal or plant extracts, plant oils, perfumes or fragrances).

Tropical Traditions soap: I really like the coconut oil based soaps because they make my skin feel super clean and fresh and create no reactions. I have tried several from the Tropical Traditions website. Search “natural soaps” in their search bar on their home pageBelow I will list the ones I have tried and use daily.

Unscented Bar: saponified organic virgin coconut oil.

Shampoo bar: saponified organic virgin coconut oil and natural patchouli.

Virgin Coconut Oil Liquid Foaming Soaps: saponified organic virgin coconut oil

Virgin coconut oil bar soaps: scented with 100% organic essential oils
Coconut Soap Lavender: saponified organic virgin coconut oil, and organic essential oil of lavender.
Coconut Soap Lemongrass: saponified organic virgin coconut oil, and organic essential oil of lemongrass and tea tree.

Bragg Apple Cider Vinegar: I use this vinegar 1x a week after I shampoo in replace of my conditioner. I use a small swig diluted with 1/2 water and dump over my hair and rise off. It leaves my hair shiny and tangle free for the rest of the week. I don’t use it everyday since it can “sting” a little, but its worth it!

Certified Bragg raw apple cider vinegar is unfiltered, unheated, unpasteurized and 5% acidity. Contains the amazing mother of vinegar which occurs naturally as strand-like enzymes of connected protein molecules.

Clothing

Organic clothing: Rawganique has been a life saver for me since most of my closet is made of organic cotton! They have a wide variety of clothing and everything is made very well. This is probably my #1 store I buy clothes from because it simple and very pure.

Brushes & sponges

Wooden hair brush with wooden bristles: This hair brush is my favorite. It is plastic-free and durable, with seven rows of maple wood bristles on a beeswax-finished beechwood body, all sourced from sustainably harvested wood. It will gently brush your hair and remove tangles. There is no glue in the brush to attach bristles.

New England Natural Sponge: This natural sponge is why I love bath time so much. I feel like my skin and lymph system are rejuvenated every time I suds up soap with it. Its a generous size and lasts a long time with proper care ( I soak in food grade hydrogen peroxide 1x a week and squeeze it out and let air dry in-between uses).

The sea sponges are washed at least 10 times in muriatic acid, which breaks down the skeletal walls.  They are then bleached naturally with hydrogen peroxide. And they are washed one final time.

Laundry

Tropical Traditions Oxygen Bleach: I use this oxygen bleach (1-2 oz per load) for white rags or towels. I use it when washing my cloth wipes (since I only use cloth instead of paper towels & toilet paper) and is natural and safe to be around. It has no fillers or additives. I even use it to clean my counters from tea strains, my bathtub and toilet! Oxygen Bleach is used to destain, deodorize, and whiten. It is very effective as a laundry presoak for heavily stained articles.

Ingredients: Sodium percarbonate, soda ash.

Charlie’s Soap “Laundry powder” : This stuff is awesome. I use it for my clothes, towels, cloth wipes. Its corn free and is safe for someone with MCS or sensitivities to things. I have not reacted to this and am happy using it daily.

NATURAL MINERAL INGREDIENTS: Sodium carbonate, sodium metasilicate (rinse aid formed by heating a mixture of sand and sodium carbonate). BIODEGRADABLE INGREDIENTS: “C12-15, Pareth-2” (Vegetable and mineral sourced surfactants) captchacode: 3E0V43

I emailed to ask more in-depth details and this is the response I got: “Our surfactant, C12-15 Pareth-2, is sourced from a variety of plant and mineral sources.  The final product has gone through such processes as to remove and fundamentally transform any potentially allergen-causing protein molecules into the “carbon soup” that is our surfactant – our detergent.  Any resemblance to its source material is fully and for all time erased.

The sources are usually coconut or palm.  There could be other plant sources, but I cannot speak definitively what they are — and there is no way to know.  All I know is that when we get our “soup” — our surfactant from the supplier — it matches exactly our required chemical specs each time, even if the sources for that surfactant vary.

And the other thing on which we can definitively speak is that there are no allergen chemicals present in the final ingredient: corn, wheat, soy, coconut, palm, or anything else”

Charlie’s soap booster: I used this booster before we got a water softener and it worked great. But I still occasionally like to use it to keep my clothes and towels soft. Also, when I buy new clothes I soak them in this booster to leach any “new clothes” smell or dyes before washing with everything else. It helps “bleeding” clothes get rid of that extra dye (yes even organic clothes bleed).

INGREDIENTS: Potassium diphosphate (read how to use it here).

Organic Eco Nuts: These little “nuts”  (which are really berries grown in the tropics and dried) are super cool. I used them more before I found Charlies soap and even boiled them into liquid to use as a conditioning shampoo. I would pop  4-5 berries in a bag and the washing machine’s agitation suds them up to clean the clothes. Some how the clothes come out clean and very soft. The best thing is that you can reuse them too and they are organic and 1 simple natural ingredient.

Dryer balls: I love to do laundry and I rely on these dryer balls to keep my clothes fluffy and dry quickly. My secret is to add 1-2 drops of your favorite essential oil on the balls and pop them into the dryer with your clothes to make them smell SO good. I use 4 at a time but I got 6 because Im always loosing them around my house!

100% Premium New Zealand Wool Dryer Balls (no fillers)

Cloth Wipes

Under the Nile cloths: These are really 100% GOTS certified organic Egyptian cotton burp cloths. They are nice and thick and double layered. Since I cannot use any paper products because I have not found one yet that is not dusted with corn starch, I opted for all cloth in my house. I use these thick cloths for my kitchen and hand towels.

Under the Nile Terry Wipes: These 100% organic wipes are the perfect size for Toilet paper! So I guess the secret is out– I use cloth “toilet paper”. I don’t think its gross and it saves money to reuse over and over again and is actually sanitary when you wash properly (I use the tropical traditions oxygen bleach listed above). They are sewn nicely and don’t fray in the wash.

Organic GladRags: These reusable GladRags are the best way to go if you want a non-toxic organic liner. They come in all sorts of thicknesses and styles. Machine washable in cold water with non-toxic soap.
